A Day at the Beach

We decided to try taking the kids to the beach even with Ellie being only 7 weeks. It turned out to be a great day! We had so much fun. Peter did great in his stroller while we walked through Seaside and looked at all the goings on. He enjoyed the carousel ride though it was a little fast for him before the end.

When it was nap time we got in the car to head south so that Peter could have a snooze- turns out, he wasn't the only one who was tired!

Then Peter and Daddy played on the beach. Peter loved playing in the sand and he really like the ocean. Unfortunately, he doesn't have any fear yet and would run straight towards the water whether we were with him or not.
We can't wait to go back!

Introducing Eleanor Kay!

Eleanor was born at 7:45 PM on Thursday May 8th, 2008. She was 7 lbs 8 oz and 21 and 1/4" long- 90 percentile for length. She developed collic around 2 and a half weeks and I had to cut dairy completely from my diet. That helped some but she had gassy periods between 8 and 11 at night every day and often in the mornings. She really started getting better between weeks 8 and 9 but has had some difficult days in the last week or so. Even so, she has started going about 8 hours between meals at night now pretty regularly- what a difference that makes!

She has started smiling and cooing a lot in the last week and is such a sweet little thing. She doesn't sleep as well as Peter did (he used to be able to sleep anywhere) and wakes up with too much noise (or moving around in her carrier).

Peter just loves his little sister and tries to give her kisses all day long. When he sees her and when he hears her crying he signs "baby." He hasn't acted jealous yet and is always gentle with her (accept for when he tries to give her a toy and isn't coordinated enough to be gentle).

Overall, we are doing great and in love with our little family.

Peter turns 1 year old!

Peter had his first birthday on January 22nd. He was given a balloon early in the day and he walked all over the house with it trailing behind. It was so adorable to hear him chattering away and playing with the balloon.

We had a little get together that evening with family and close friends for some snacks and cake and ice cream. Peter loved having all of the people over and especially loved his chocolate cake. I made him his own little cupcake and, surprisingly, he didn't make too much of a mess. He wasn't really interested in opening gifts but I know that will change by next year!

He also had his 1 year check up this week. He is average in weight at 22 1/2 pounds and he is in the 75% for his height at 30 1/2" long. He has 7 teeth already (four on the top and three on the bottom in front) but two more have cut in and I can see another trying to cut through. He still has a problem with milk but I started introducing cheese to his diet this week- hopefully, he will be able to have some dairy without getting a rash or dry skin. He says dadada and mamama often but he doesn't seem to be saying them for any purpose. However, he does seem to know to look for dad when I say "daddy's home!"

He is such a delightful little boy. He doesn't fuss much and he is starting to be a snuggler. He walks around (he started walking at 10 months) and plays with everything and then comes and lays his head on me for a second and then is off to play again. We have so much fun together.

Family Vacation to Whistler, BC

The Jacoshenks traveled to Whistler, BC for a week in the snow with Grandma and Grandpa Herman. Peter did pretty well in the car but he didn't really like sleeping in a new place.

It was his first opportunity to be out in the snow and to touch it. It even snowed while we were there but Peter didn't like it in his face so much.

We bundled him up and took him around the village a few different times and he did great- he just sat back and observed.

Barry skiied a few days with my dad and I got to ski a day while Grandma watched the Punk. The weather was beautiful but it was a bit icy since we were there so early in the season.
